How to get
to La Vaure
Please note:
The
following is intended to act as a guide only, and we strongly suggest
that you check travel arrangements before booking accommodation. Budget
airlines, ferries and train operators frequently change not only their
timetables but also their destinations, and so we cannot be held responsible
for any inaccuracies in the information we have provided.
FROM THE UK
BY AIR
The following is a
list of nearby airports, all of which have car hire facilities:
Bergerac
(1hr 20m by car)
La Rochelle (1hr 30m by
car)
Bordeaux (1hr by car)
Poitiers (1hr 30m by car)
There are rumours that
budget airlines will soon start to fly to Angoulême (45 minutes by car), so check with them before you book.
Carriers such as British
Airways, Ryanair and Flybe now fly here from regional airports all over the UK, including Norwich, Birmingham, Exeter, Southampton, Bristol and London (Stanstead and Gatwick).
There is also an airfield
for light aircraft at Chalais,
10 minutes away by car.
FROM THE UK
BY CAR
The Channel port of Calais
(which can be reached by ferry from Dover
or by the Channel Tunnel
from Folkstone) is 7-8 hrs away by car depending on which
route you take. The port of St. Malo
in Brittany is about 5hrs 30m away by car, and can be reached by daytime
and overnight ferries from Portsmouth.
There are numerous ferry ports between these two, (for example Boulogne, Caen,
Cherbourg, Dieppe
and Le Havre) and journey
times from these will be between those for the crossings we have used
as examples. The crossings themselves can be by traditional ferry, or
by fast catamaran, with crossing times dependant on the type of vessel
and the time of day (night crossings are often adjusted so that you arrive
at a not too horrendous hour in the morning). Carriers you could try are
Brittany Ferries, P&O, Speedferries and
Transmanche.
FROM THE UK BY
TRAIN
From London
Waterloo you can travel to Angoulême
(45 minutes away by car) in about 7 hours with one change at either Paris or
Lille. This is a rapid service by Eurostar
in England and TGV in France,
and the change of trains at Lille is recommended as it only requires a
change of platforms rather than a change of stations (as at Paris). |
